Toonda Cultural Community Center

In rural Uganda, limited access to quality education, economic opportunities for women, and creative expression prevents communities from reaching their full potential. Many families live below the poverty line, and young people often drop out of school due to financial hardship. Women, especially single mothers, lack stable income and professional skills. Artistic and cultural resources are underrepresented, and youth have few outlets to develop their talents and voices.

Toonda addresses these challenges through a community-led approach that combines education, women’s empowerment, and arts & culture, creating a safe and inclusive environment where people gain skills, confidence, and income.

Our solution is to empower people at the grassroots level through a vibrant community hub that offers:

• Educational support (school sponsorships, tutoring, digital literacy, reading programs)
• Women-led income generation (weaving, tailoring, catering groups – now producing for TK Maxx)
• Creative spaces for expression and exchange (annual cultural gala, artist residencies, workshops)
• Local tourism initiatives (Airbnb, drumming & weaving workshops) that generate income for sustainability

All our projects are designed with the community, for the community, with a strong emphasis on self-organization and long-term impact.

Role (Volunteer): WordPress Web Developer.

Role Description: We are looking for a volunteer with experience in SEO and WordPress to help us improve the visibility and performance of our website. TOONDA is a grassroots NGO in rural Uganda, and our digital presence is key to reaching supporters, donors, and collaborators around the world.

Your Tasks:

• Optimize our website (WordPress) for better search engine rankings
• Improve loading speed and mobile responsiveness
• Support with technical maintenance and plugin updates
• Help us track and understand web analytics
• Advise on content structure and keyword strategy

You’d be a great fit if you:

• Have experience with SEO tools and WordPress
• Enjoy working independently and proactively
• Want to use your tech skills for a meaningful cause
• Can commit a few hours per week remotely

Impact: Your support will help TOONDA gain visibility, attract new partners, and strengthen our international network—amplifying the voices of rural women, youth, and artists in Uganda.

Time Commitment: Volunteer 4-6 hours per week for 6+ months remotely
