The Role

As a Backend Engineer, you’ll design, deliver, and maintain a scalable system that integrates multiple data service providers, ensuring uptime, fault tolerance, and performance. You’ll work closely with product, design, and operations teams to translate business needs into reliable, elegant technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain backend systems that enable integration with multiple external service providers.
  • Develop and document REST APIs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Drive reliability improvements and scalability initiatives.
  • Mentor peers and foster knowledge sharing within the engineering team.

Core Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related STEM discipline.
  • Strong Python development experience, ideally with FastAPI, Pydantic, and SQLAlchemy.
  • Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and PostGIS.
  • Proven background designing and maintaining RESTful APIs.
  • Experience in fast-paced startup or scale-up environments.
  • Comfortable working autonomously, taking ownership from concept to delivery.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment workflows.
  • Experience with cloud environments (GCP preferred).
  • Previous exposure to geospatial, temporal, or image datasets is highly desirable.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience working in SaaS environments or with globally distributed teams.
  • Interest in geospatial data, remote sensing, or Earth observation applications.
