About the Project

We are seeking tech-savvy, motivated individuals to join our ground-based lidar data collection project. As a Lidar Data Collection Operator, you will use cutting-edge “Photon” lidar camera technology to collect high-quality spatial data across 200+ locations in your region.

Project Overview

Duration: 4 weeks per region (1 week training + 3 weeks data collection)

Collection Target: Approximately 70 locations per operator over the 3-week collection period (25 locations per week)

Training Location: San Francisco, CA (all travel and accommodation expenses covered separately.)

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate the Photon lidar camera device to scan designated ground locations
  • Navigate to assigned collection sites within your local region
  • Perform on-site data collection according to established protocols and quality standards
  • Upload collected data to designated systems
  • Conduct initial quality checks to ensure data meets project specifications
  • Maintain detailed logs of collection activities and site conditions
  • Communicate proactively with project management regarding progress and any issues

Required Qualifications

  • Strong technical aptitude and comfort with technology
  • Excellent familiarity with the local collection region (Seattle/Bellevue, SF Bay Area, or Los Angeles)
  • Ability to lift and transport equipment weighing approximately 25 lbs
  • Access to reliable local transportation (vehicle or bicycle preferred)
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Professional communication skills and diplomatic demeanor when interacting with property owners/public
  • Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
  • Attention to detail and commitment to data quality

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with surveying, mapping, or data collection
  • Familiarity with GPS/mapping applications
  • Photography or videography experience
  • Valid driver’s license

Training & Support

  • Comprehensive 3-day training program in San Francisco covering:
  • Photon device operation and maintenance
  • Data collection techniques and best practices
  • Quality control procedures
  • Safety protocols
  • All training-related travel and accommodation expenses compensated separately
  • Ongoing remote support throughout the collection period

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and carry equipment for extended periods
  • Capability to lift and transport equipment weighing up to 25 lbs
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
