Franklin County is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Airport Operations Assistant (Part-Time) to support the safe and efficient operation of our airport facilities. Assists in maintaining a safe and secure airport environment by conducting inspections of terminal and airport property. Performs supporting security and operational activities.

Dispenses fuel into aircraft from airport’s fuel trucks and the fuel island facility.

Ability to drive a fuel truck and tug for towing aircraft to secure and tie down aircraft.

Collects various payments from tenants including collecting cash and processing credit cards for fuel and other products and services; accurately receipt cash and other revenue collections received; makes daily deposit based on receipted collections.

Ensures quality control of aviation fuels at all times.

Assists pilot and their passengers with various needs.

Performs minor custodial duties to Airport facilities.

May assist with weather observations including changes to AWOS.

Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.

Performs daily inspection of all airport safety and operational areas and equipment including runway and taxiways, airfield lighting, parking aprons, hangars, terminal building, fuel storage areas and perimeter fences and gates.

Performs duties to monitor and report security regulations, Uniform Fire Code regulations and vehicle operation and parking rules.

Performs administrative functions for completing and compiling daily and other inspection forms, operational record keeping, aircraft incident reports, emergency medical responses, wildlife hazard incidents (bird or other animal strikes) to include removal of said wildlife and the issuance of citations and/or warnings.

Performs and assists the Regional Airport Director and Airport Operation Specialist in all areas of responsibility pertaining to the airport.

Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity. Must have the ability to be contacted and respond in a timely manner to emergency calls, and be able to work evenings, weekends, holidays and 10-hour shifts on a rotational basis.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to physically perform the basic life functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, smelling and repetitive

motions.

Must be able to perform very heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently; and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Verbal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly.

Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound.

Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing

general surroundings and activities.

Work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to vibration, frequently exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and

occasionally requires working in high, precarious places and exposure to the risk of electrical shock.

Work is generally in a very loud noise location (e.g. jack hammer work, garbage recycle plant).

High school diploma and minimal experience in fueling operations or equivalent combination of education and experience. Airport and/or airfield experience preferred.

QuickBooks And Microsoft Office Experience Preferred.

Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license upon hire.
